Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
Twitch has been a pretty great hamster these past few weeks. She’s easy to take care of, and Beau and her seem to get along really well. Thing is… she won’t stop chewing on her cage! Ken and I have bought her a number of toys, and she seems so disinterested in them.
We started out by buying her a wooden hamburger with loofa inserts. She wasn’t interested in the hamburger as a whole, when we broke it that she started chewing on each piece separately. Thing is… she would only chew on them while we were holding them through the metal bars.
While getting to know Twitch we noticed she absolutely loves carrots, eating them right away instead of hiding them in her cheeks! So we thought we would get her wood that tastes like carrots. She also didn’t seem like a big fan of these until we started to stick them into the bars of the cage (but only in the section where she always chewed.)
This actually seemed to help a lot. Twitch has been spending more time chewing on the wood and the loofas, however she is still chewing on the cage in small amounts.
I’m actually interested in grabbing her one of these wooden trains. I feel like it’s a tall enough height for her to want to chew on it. Although I hear it’s really hard for you to find toys that hamsters will chew on.
So, this is when I ask you…
Do you have a little one who won’t stop chewing on their cage? What did you do?
