Beau’s Diet Change

December 24, 2016 By Johnny Salib 2 Comments

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

I’m going to keep a pretty detailed log of Beau’s life and all the other pets we are able to adopt. That way I can document the lives of my pet family, as well as make sure I have written reminders of their well-being. For example, Beau had a UTI a few months ago. We didn’t know what caused the UTI until we were reminded that we recently changed his food. Man, I wish I knew what food it was because it literally dried the guy right up. I still have a bit sitting in a container and sometimes I’ll give it to him as a treat. I’m pretty sure it was Salmon and Sweet Potato, but if anyone has seen this kibble before please feel free to correct me. Also, if you’ve seen it before and had good experiences let’s chat! I want to see what was up with it, because it also smelled extremely dry…

The Mystery Kibble

Anyways! Back to the real purpose for this blog. We fed Beau this morning using his PetSafe SlimCat Feeding Ball filled with Performatrin Ultra Lamb and Brown Rice recipe. Honestly Beau seems to love it so much. He’s been sniffing at the bag of food every day since we got it! I originally got him samples of it a month ago and have been slowly feeding it to him, trying to see how much he’d like it! So far so good! I am a tad bit worried that he’s not going to get all the omega-3 and omega-6 that he’s currently getting with a Salmon based food, but he sure seems to love the lamb! I mean, that’s something that simple research can do for me.

After Beau ate this morning he ended up flopping on his side, looking crazy full. (As a 10lb semi-active cat he currently gets fed 2/3’s of a cup of food a day.) Today was his first day getting 1/3 of Performatrin. Unlike BLUE it seems like Performatrin’s kibble expands quite a bit! I will probably write a review of some sort about it as I continue to feed Beau. Back to Beau’s reaction though… he seemed more full than he’s ever been. He didn’t come running back to me to sleep, he just sat by his ball under the kitchen table. (Odd behaviour because he usually likes to sleep in with me until whenever I wake up, or as soon as he hears me wake up he’ll come snuggle or mew in my face.)

Tonight when I poured Beau the other half of his food in the Catit Senses 2.0 Food Tree he completely ignored it. Now, there could be many factors to this as we had just come back home and he was to see us, he already had a partial meal in the morning and wasn’t hungry, he wanted to play because we didn’t have a chance to play with him, we had a guest over so he wanted her attention, the list could go on and on. Beau ignored his food for about 45-minutes before heading to the Tree for his meal. Beau is also fed by an alarm. As soon as he hears it he comes running to eat. When the alarm went off tonight it didn’t seem like he really cared. He let out his normal “feed me” scream, but only for a brief 5-second period before flopping on his side by my feet. Odd, am-i-right?

Otherwise, Beau is just as playful as ever. Tormenting our fish Blub (who you’ll hear about very soon.)

Question for today:
What food do you feed your cats and why?

hello..just saw your blog and wondering why Beau is on a diet?10 lbs is a healthy weight…I’ve had cats all my life currently have 9.My oldest lived to 20yrs and 3 months..When cats get sick sometimes they lose lots of weight..I would rather see them have some ‘extra’ than painfully skinny.Beau looks perfect to me..

Beau is currently actually 12.6 pounds. At the time of this blog we were noticing he was gaining weight which is why we started to try to find food for him to either stay the same weight if not lose a bit. Because Beau is a shorter kitty the vet recommended to keep him between 9-10lbs. This is the main reason for the diet switches. (Note: this post was written on December 24, 2016)
