Thoughts on KONG Cat Zoom Groom Brush

July 11, 2017 By Johnny Salib 28 Comments

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

In my time working at the pet store I debated buying KONG’s Cat Zoom Groom Brush, however, I’m always so wary of buying new brushes since I’m so happy with my Furminator (which I really recommend grabbing if you don’t have one yourself.) On top of that, I was always sceptical of the Zoom Groom brush as it’s made out of rubber and I haven’t used a brush that hasn’t been made out of metal.

While working at the pet store this brush I was under the impression (by other pet owners and by staff members) that the Zoom Groom Brush didn’t work well and was primarily for long hair cats & bathing. Man was I was wrong!

A week ago, while I was on tour spending time with Kitten Face & Blueberry, Kitten Face started begging me to pet her with the Kong Cat Zoom Groom Brush. So, I picked it up and started brushing. Kitten Face is a domestic short hair so I was sceptical that the brush would even work on her. Little did I know that within the first 10 strokes I would get so much hair!

The Zoom Groom Brush is so soft and flexible that it even allows you to pet your little on the face! (One of Kitten Face’s Favourite places to be pet!)

This is something I find lacking from most metal based brushes, especially because Beau likes his cute little face pet too (especially if I begin brushing his head.)

While I’m still a firm supporter of the Furminator, I have become a fan of the Zoom Groom as it can be used for multiple purposes. It surprisingly takes out a lot of hair, but I will confirm that as soon as I get one for Beau (that way I can compare it with the Furminator.)

Have any of you tried the Zoom Groom? Let me know in the comments below what you think of it!

You can get it for like $4 at petco. They price match! I love this brush because it gets SO much hair out. My cat only likes being brushed for a little bit but this is really good and gentle, so I don’t feel bad about brushing her.

We actually don’t have Petco anywhere near us šŸ™ It’s not as common in Canada, but yeah I was surprised how effective it was!

We’ve use the Zoom Groom for years. Raven is long haired and it took a few gentle brushings for her to enjoy it. But it does a very good job at getting out loose fur while still being gentle. She likes being brushed in one direction (with the grain), and I think the Zoom Groom instructions suggest going in circles to kind-of wad up the fur into the brush. But it still works well our way. It’s also great for getting fur off your clothing or cat bedding. I usually follow the Zoom Groom with a slicker brush, then flea comb to get her furs nice and sleek.

I’ve tried the Furminator and it is our least favorite grooming tool. I think it is too harsh. It’s a very “stiff” and heavy tool and the edges of the grooming blade can be traumatic if you don’t have the comb perfectly flat against the skin. Raven tolerates a few gentle strokes, but that’s all.

Ah yeah, it really depends on what your kitty likes! Glad the Zoom Groom works so well for your little one. Luckily Beau really likes the Furminator and purrs all throughout his brushing! I can’t wait to try the zoom groom out on a real long hair though! šŸ™‚ Maybe one day when we can adopt Beau a little furr buddie!

We have a Zoom Groom and it’s the first of three things our mom uses when she brushes us. We are all DSH so for us it’s great! Also, because Elliott is such a skinny boy, it’s the most comfortable for him. He’s not a fan of brushing but will tolerate some if he knows treats are waiting at the end. šŸ™‚

Right? It’s pretty cool that it actually works to be honest, but it’s always so hard to trust some pet products!

We have used the Zoom Groom for years. It is really great on short haired cats.
However, JJ (long haired cat) likes it too.
They all like being brushed, but Georgia(the Tortie) loves it the most.
The Furminator thins the fur and the Zoom Groom gives the cats a massage šŸ™‚

We have one of these and the mom hasn’t used it on us in a long time. We think she should get it out and start using it! (We also have a furminator too, but we don’t like it as much.)

We’re in the same boat : we love our Furminator once a month for the “big” work, and we love our Kong Cat Zoom Groom Brush for several weekly “light” grooming sessions. Purrs

That’s a good idea. WE usually use our slicker brush a couple times a week and our furminator every other week!

We purchased a Zoom Groom many years ago, and it sits in the shelf, along with our Furminator! These days, we have a human comb and a bristle brush, which we use on Angel and Chuck. They are both shorthairs, and these old-fashioned implements seem to be the best for them. I also have a comb and brush outside for The ‘O’ cats, and now that Sweetie allows me to brush her, she’s turned into a real brushie-lover! Patty O’Malley has longer fur, and some sort of undercoat (maybe he’s got some Maine Coon blood?), and the comb works wonders. However, isn’t it great to get to try out something, without having to purchase it first?

Absolutely great to try stuff out before buying it! Especially because sometimes you can’t tell from reviews if it will work specifically for your cat. (*cough cough* even though this is pretty much a review.) I’ve tried regular brushes on Beau but they, unfortunately, don’t work. At least I have a brush for my head now šŸ˜‰

I have a regular dog brush for my dog. He has me trained well because if he sits down and lets me brush him or clip his nails he knows he gets a treat. lol I’ve never had a cat so I’ve never tried a cat brush.

That’s a well trained dog! Gotta love when they know it’s time to get down to business! But great task-reward initiative. We’ve got that going for our little ones too, although Walker still isn’t too fond of his nails being cut!

Have not tried a zoom groom my self…but we do have another brush with similar characteristics, and it works well…trouble is, Pipo won’t sit still for two seconds, MOL!
Minko did and he loved it. Maybe I will try the zoom groom as it fits right in your hand.

I have another brush with rubber teeth that works really well at getting ‘fur-deposits ‘off of kitty nests and furniture.

Hahaha! I need me some coffee too! Don’t you worry about it! And yeah, the zoom groom is pretty big. I was surprised how comfortable it was.

Walker is the kitty who hates sitting in one place. Although, sometimes you can get him to sit for a good ten minutes while brushing him. I think he would like this one more than the wire brushes as he is a HUGE face petting sucker šŸ˜€
