An Unexpected Surrender

March 27, 2017 By Johnny Salib Leave a Comment

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

This morning a lady asked me if the store I work at takes surrenders. I told her I couldn’t take her surrender and informed her of steps she could take to get the little girl adopted. The lady said she would call the local small animal shelter and left.

Turns out the lady left the poor cutie out in the cold by the local grocery store. When I got home from work I got a phone call from my boss saying that the fur baby was left alone to die. My boss asked me to foster her, but my s.o. quickly said that he wanted to take her in as our own as he has always wanted a hamster.

So meet Twitch! Our newest girl!

Twitch currently lives in a Kaytee Critter Trail Simple Start Habitat which we read isn’t the greatest cage, but as we learn more about how to properly take care of her we will buy her the things she needs!

It hasn’t been hard to get twitch to eat. We got her a bag of Kaytee Fiesta Hamster Food as it has some of the most selection of seeds. She seems to be enjoying it. We were warned that sometimes Hamsters get picky about what they eat so sometimes pellets are best, but she doesn’t seem to be picky about the seeds. Actually she ate a bunch of her food and is still eating. (I wonder if shes actually starved as it didn’t seem like the lady took very good care of the little one.)

Twitch has been happily drinking as well. We were a bit nervous that the bottle in the cage was a bit cheap, however if hasn’t been dripping and she seems able to get the water from the bottle.

The only thing is… she’s biting the cage a lot and we don’t know what to do! We did a bit of reading to see some ways to prevent her from biting, and we even bought her a little Super Pet Hamburger Small Animal Toy, Wood and Loofah which she hasn’t actually used on her own yet. She seems only interested in it when you put it right in front of her. I know it’s going to be a guessing game to find what she’s going to like, but does anyone have any personal favourites?
