An Update on Carrie/Kalista (Our New Cat)

May 15, 2018 By Johnny Salib 14 Comments

meeting-carrie-2

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

I’m so excited to let you know that we will be picking Carrie/Kalista up this weekend! (It’s weird to call her Kalista already since she’s not in our home and she’s still named Carrie “technically”, so I’ll refer to her as Carrie throughout this post.)

We delayed bringing Carrie home for a week because of a few reasons.

  1. PetSmart is actually holding an event to help support the shelter we’re getting her from, and if we rescue her through PetSmart they will get an extra donation towards their mission
  2. I’m about to go into a very, very rigorous tech week for a show I’m working on, but the show is also this week so next week I’ll have plenty of time.

I’m really sad that we didn’t get her this weekend because I’ve been dying to bring her home, but I think it’s the right choice since I won’t be home for at least 10-15 hours a day this week and… it would benefit both the rescue and me! (Since I want to make sure she’s adjusting well and is getting all the cuddles she deserves)

Carrie went through her spaying last week and recovered very quickly. I’ve actually never seen the recovery after a spaying/neutering, so I can’t speak to how fast the recovery really is, but I will say I was mega surprised to get the e-mail that she was running around and playing immediately when she got home. I’m also very glad to hear she’s doing well, nothing would crush my heart more than if something went wrong.

Carrie is still a picky, picky. So, my hubby and I went to buy a bunch of different brands to see if she would eat them, and we’re trying to get advice from pet parents to see if they’ve successfully gotten their little ones to eat foods that they were originally picky about. I know I will definitely be trying Fruitables again with her since it really worked for Beau and we got some Primal samples to see if she will take to it!

I’m so pumped to have her in our home and I just got excited when I added the little “Kalista” tab onto our menu!! Our house is really going to become a zoo, but I love it and can’t wait to tell you about the adventures we all get on! <3

You are wise to wait until you have lots of time to help Carrie/Kalista adjust to her new surroundings and furblings.

I don’t have much advice about the food though. I used to think Minko was fussy/picky…later to realize he was not even eating a thing. Bummer. but that’s another whole long story…

When we got our first kitty, he was about 7years, and there was food and litter, but untouched as far as I could tell…till the second day:)
Then he had come out at night to gobble food and use the box with no one about to disturb him. It took ages before he came to us in daylight…but eventually he became quite the demanding snuggle kitty.

Pipo is not a treat motivated kitty…but he loves most any kind of wet food, so I cannot give you any advice…

I sure hope your Pet shop gets lots of adoptions to aid that shelter.

I’m hoping lots of kitties were adopted that day! I haven’t checked in with them yet, but I’m also hoping to team up with them for supawcute.com. They were such an amazing shelter to adopt Kalista from and she’s currently running around playing with a laser light!!

I admit, I was terrified to add to our family – but I’m glad we did. I don’t have any advice for picky kitties … I’ve got one myself.

J; that’s the best idea; having two or three varieties//brand names of canned in your house, as well as waiting until you’re able to be home and help her transition into her new home

remember; when kalista does come home, she’ll be “anxious” and might not eat…a bunch…at first….regardless of the flavor ore “style” chunk, pate, gravy

{ and we all can vouch for whatever a cat likes TODAY they will NOT like TOMORROW } ….but give it a month !! L ♥♥

Absolutely! I’ll probably start out with the ones she’s used to so I don’t waste some of the other ones. I want to make sure she ACTUALLY doesn’t like them 🙂

Can’t wait to hear more about your new addition. Very Nice of you to wait an extra week so Pet Smart can get some extra donations.
