Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
This weekend we were asked to babysit our nephew, which meant, I got to meet some new kitties!
In the years that I’ve known my partner, I’ve actually never met his sister’s cats or even been over to her place, so you know I just had to bring my camera.
My partner’s sister is the proud pet parent of 3 cats: Mel, Doctor Wiley and Clover!
Photographed above and below is her cat, Mel. Mel is an adorable black cat who has a white undercoat.
She’s not much of a “pick me up” kind of cat, although throughout the night she would come over to me and ask for some light petting (especially when the toddler was in bed.)
Mel is the type of cat who loves to be pet, but only if she’s far enough that you can’t pick her up. My partner’s sister made the joke that she loves being pet only if it inconveniences you, which is fairly true.
I will say though, Mel came fairly close to me at some points of the night and even sat on the armrest next to me so I could brush her. And boy did she ever love being brushed!
Clover (pictured below) is also a black cat, however, she does not have a white undercoat.
I think that that’s the easiest way to tell the two apart, although if I got to spend more than a few hours with them I’m sure I would have been able to tell them apart in other ways.
Clover quickly became my “best friend” upon arriving, immediately asking to be picked up and meowing for attention.
It’s shocking, but I would say that Clover likes to be held even more than Beau does, which is quite a bit.
It was hard not to hold Clover the whole night, but surprisingly she only likes to be held while you stand up. If you ever sit down with Clo in your arms she will start biting and/or scratching. Weird, right?
By far the cutest thing about Clo is the fact that she loves licking my beard clean. She just couldn’t get enough of it! If you want to see that, head over to my personal Instagram, however, I warn you sometimes the language I use is not PG.
Clover is also quite a big meower, although every time I whipped out the camera to record her meowing… well, she stopped! Funny how cats always seem to do that.
Finally, Doctor Wiley.
Doctor Wiley is a fairly independent cat who enjoys being pet but spent a lot of time sleeping on the couch a bit away from us.
He doesn’t seem to mind attention, but he doesn’t seem to really care for it either as his sisters seem to be the suckers for it.
I will say though, Wiley is one of the most handsome cats I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of him being adorable throughout the night and I kept joking that I wanted to steal him away so he could model for me all the time.
He’s also the cat who stood still for me the longest so I could take proper photos of him since the other cats seemed to run anytime I’d move a lamp or try to find better lighting.
It was extremely nice to spend time with some new cats, especially because of how easy it is to forget that cats have such a wide range of personalities.
I enjoyed the fact that Clover was so loving and always wanted attention, while still being a bit of a chatty Cathy.
I enjoyed the fact that Mel played a bit hard to get, making me try to figure out how I could potentially encourage her to spend more time with us.
And I loved the fact that Wiley let us do whatever we want as if we had always lived there. He just liked the fact that we were around, but didn’t really need anything from us.
It did really make me want to meet even more cats.
I haven’t done that in a while, since I haven’t been on tour in a year or so, and I don’t really leave the house much (other than for work.)
So maybe it’s time to make some new friends… *cough, cough* just to meet their cats.
I actually can’t wait to meet my sister’s new cat Bjorn when I go visit her overseas in the future. She’s been sending me loads of pictures and videos of him!
Can’t wait to meet all of my cat niblings!
