Review: Catit Design Senses Fountain

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

I know, I know… I just reviewed a fountain, so why am I doing it again? Well, it’s because I actually really like this fountain! I have owned the Cattit Design Senses Fountain for the past 3 years and my, oh my is it a godsend!

As you may already know I, like most people, have kitties that really don’t like drinking. (It’s mostly Walker though…) Ever since we got Walker we noticed he didn’t drink much and at first we weren’t too worried, but after his first UTI we immediately bought him this fountain to try to get him to drink more. And the truth is… He does drink more! And guess what? He hasn’t gotten a UTI since!

Johnny, what’s your favourite thing about this fountain?

Well… It’s actually the size of the fountain. This fountain carries 3 Litres of water, which actually lasts about a week to a week or a half (with one kitty). This makes the product perfect for a multi-kitty (or puppy) household. The fountain is also almost at head height, which allows the kitties (or puppies) to drink comfortably and easily. Also, given the fact that 3 Litres of water has quite a bit of weight to it, it makes this fountain perfect for pet owners who have pets that topple over bowls or step in them periodically. (If you don’t face this struggle, you’d be surprised how many people used to come up to me at the store asking me what they could do.)

Does it keep my water clean?

Absolutely! And changeable filers aren’t actually that expensive. They range in price (based on how many you buy) and are about the same price as fish filters. We like to change ours once a month (just to keep things super fresh for our little ones.) We also clean our fountain about once a week (whenever the water gets low) and it’s super easy to clean! We use a bit a vinegar on a sponge and BAM it’s good as new.

How loud is it? Does it scare kitties?

It’s actually quite quiet. The only time it gets loud is when the water gets very low (but you’d expect that from any pump!) As mentioned in my review of the Deluxe Fresh Flow by Petmate I do a lot of music recording in the house, and I have to turn the other fountain off, while this one doesn’t get picked up by the mic (and if it does, it’s super simple to edit out because of how quiet it is!)

Do you have anything to complain about?

I don’t know what it is about AC adapters, but we seem to never have luck with them! Unfortunately, the Catit’s adapter started falling apart about a year after we bought it. Luckily it still works, but the casing is starting to come apart. We’ve fixed it with some hot glue, but we need to find a stronger adhesive that doesn’t melt (maybe super glue.) I know this has been an issue with a few other customers and I wish companies would invest in better adapters! They aren’t that expensive to buy for wholesale, it’s just super hard for folks to find them if they aren’t buying them in bulk! (If anyone knows of a place to buy them, let me know! I do definitely want to grab 2 or 3 just in case!)

Final Thoughts

I would give this product a 4.5/5. I honestly would give it a 5 if it wasn’t for the AC plug. The fountain is both Beau and Walker’s favourite place to drink (and trust me they have quite a number of places to drink from! We have cups, both ceramic & stainless steel bowls, two fountains lying around the house! You’d think we were crazy when you visit us!)
