Review: Catit Design Senses Fountain

July 28, 2017 By Johnny Salib 28 Comments

review-catit-senses-fountain

Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,

I know, I know… I just reviewed a fountain, so why am I doing it again? Well, it’s because I actually really like this fountain! I have owned the Cattit Design Senses Fountain for the past 3 years and my, oh my is it a godsend!

As you may already know I, like most people, have kitties that really don’t like drinking. (It’s mostly Walker though…) Ever since we got Walker we noticed he didn’t drink much and at first we weren’t too worried, but after his first UTI we immediately bought him this fountain to try to get him to drink more. And the truth is… He does drink more! And guess what? He hasn’t gotten a UTI since!

Johnny, what’s your favourite thing about this fountain?

Well… It’s actually the size of the fountain. This fountain carries 3 Litres of water, which actually lasts about a week to a week or a half (with one kitty). This makes the product perfect for a multi-kitty (or puppy) household. The fountain is also almost at head height, which allows the kitties (or puppies) to drink comfortably and easily. Also, given the fact that 3 Litres of water has quite a bit of weight to it, it makes this fountain perfect for pet owners who have pets that topple over bowls or step in them periodically. (If you don’t face this struggle, you’d be surprised how many people used to come up to me at the store asking me what they could do.)

Does it keep my water clean?

Absolutely! And changeable filers aren’t actually that expensive. They range in price (based on how many you buy) and are about the same price as fish filters. We like to change ours once a month (just to keep things super fresh for our little ones.) We also clean our fountain about once a week (whenever the water gets low) and it’s super easy to clean! We use a bit a vinegar on a sponge and BAM it’s good as new.

How loud is it? Does it scare kitties?

It’s actually quite quiet. The only time it gets loud is when the water gets very low (but you’d expect that from any pump!) As mentioned in my review of the Deluxe Fresh Flow by Petmate I do a lot of music recording in the house, and I have to turn the other fountain off, while this one doesn’t get picked up by the mic (and if it does, it’s super simple to edit out because of how quiet it is!)

Do you have anything to complain about?

I don’t know what it is about AC adapters, but we seem to never have luck with them! Unfortunately, the Catit’s adapter started falling apart about a year after we bought it. Luckily it still works, but the casing is starting to come apart. We’ve fixed it with some hot glue, but we need to find a stronger adhesive that doesn’t melt (maybe super glue.) I know this has been an issue with a few other customers and I wish companies would invest in better adapters! They aren’t that expensive to buy for wholesale, it’s just super hard for folks to find them if they aren’t buying them in bulk! (If anyone knows of a place to buy them, let me know! I do definitely want to grab 2 or 3 just in case!)

Final Thoughts

I would give this product a 4.5/5. I honestly would give it a 5 if it wasn’t for the AC plug. The fountain is both Beau and Walker’s favourite place to drink (and trust me they have quite a number of places to drink from! We have cups, both ceramic & stainless steel bowls, two fountains lying around the house! You’d think we were crazy when you visit us!)

ive had my eyes on this fountain for a while now but it is recommend for cats not to eat and drink from plastic as it may cause cat acne ( little specks of black dots on the chin), seem great, price is not expensive but it being plastic is my only concern

Yeah, I totally feel you on the acne thing. Beau had acne for a while, but we made sure to keep his chin clean as soon as we found it. All in all, I think that having a fountain in our house was more important than getting acne because our little ones weren’t big drinkers at all, and were super prone to UTIs. It’s a bit of a trade off.

Maybe we should try this fountain at our den. Pipo would have a harder time splashing around in it…And since dog-guy would also use it, its good it holds a lot of water,

I’ve never heard of this one! I’m pretty lucky that both cats drink more than most. We just got a fountain and Bear’s still unsure of it when it’s on – but Ellie seems to prefer it to a regular water bowl.

That’s interesting, but I’m glad to hear they drink more than most cats. That’s the most important part!

Whoa! You hit the big times! I just read about you in The Swiss Cats. Do they make replacement plugs? I know the 360 does. It sounds dangerous to tape it.

Pretty awesome, eh? We love the Swiss Cats. They’re super rad!

From what I found, they don’t make their own replacement plugs, mostly just pumps. I’m looking into other AC adapters, cause as long as it’s 5V we’re safe. (I also don’t think I’d want to buy a replacement from them since it seems to be a recurring issue.)

That looks like a nice fountain and if it gets you to drink more water, Johnny, that’s what’s more important.

Great review! We have two PetWell ceramic fountains and always are thinking of adding more. We’ve wondered about this kind of fountain and enjoyed learning it holds a lot of water and is quieter. Thank you as well, for your interview over on Swiss Cats. We mentioned over there that we particularly liked reading the purpose of blogging about your pets and we couldn’t agree more! Have a good weekend!

Thank you so much for stopping by! šŸ™‚ I really need to check out these ceramic ones. I actually didn’t know they existed till earlier this week. You can never have enough water fountains! You should check this one out for sure.

And yes, I have been loving, loving, loving blogging! It’s something I’m excited to do, especially because it relates to the little ones I love. Happy weekend x

I don’t know why I didn’t find any adapters there. I guess maybe I’m looking up the wrong keywords? Have one you recommend?
