Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
Been a while since I’ve said that, eh?
As you may have gathered from my lack of updates and posts in general, I’ve had a very busy month. Between sound designing a show, recording and releasing new music and just trying to function as a human… I’ve found myself out of the house more than I wish I was.
It’s a luxury to be able to work from home some months, especially because I get to spend such a concentrated amount of time with our pets, but this month I feel like I’ve been missing out on a lot of their lives.
Luckily our pets are “grown adults” so I’m not missing out on any of the growth spurs, first steps or anything like that, but it looks like I did miss out on some of the funny moments my partner shared with Gary.
As you know, my partner and I have been working at trying to bond with Gary, our chinchilla. Though we’ve had him for just over a year, I wouldn’t say we’ve bonded with Gary to the level that we want to. Gary still gets upset every so often when we come near the cage and as of late he’s actually stopped coming to the front to say hello to me anytime I’m in the room. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the weather being hotter (since Chinchillas are sensitive to heat) or maybe it’s because Kalista has been more rambunctious than usual (making Gary a bit more on edge.) But that hasn’t stopped us from trying to make sure our connection becomes more solid.
This month my partner has gotten into the habit of letting Gary out of his cage more often so he can hop around and enjoy the big open office. My partner will leave both of Gary’s cages open and Gary will hop about running between the cages. He seems to really like that, especially because his second cage has 4 tiers in it, making it ideal for him to jump around!
Well, along the way it seems like Gary found an old dog toy we were trying to get Beau to use as a chewing toy. We were originally going to donate it to our local pet shop but never got around to it… but after witnessing this video… I think it’s a keeper!
Although I haven’t seen Gary use it in person (yet), my partner let me know how ecstatic Gary gets around the chew toy and to be honest… it looks like it would be perfect for him to exercise with! My only concern is, I’m going to have to cut off the squeaker because he’s bound to start chewing on it which would be awfully bad!
So, without further ado, the following is a video my partner sent me of Gary running around with the dog toy! Here’s to tomorrow being the weekend so I get plenty of time to play with Gary and witness this adorable activity in person!
