REVIEW: BLUE Naturally Fresh Multi-Cat Natural Cat Litter (Alpine Meadow)

February 21, 2018 By Johnny Salib 2 Comments

naturally-fresh

We have gone through quite a number of litter brands over the past 3 years and I thought it would be helpful if we shared some of our experiences with them. So far we have tried: Odor Destroyer, Naturally Fresh Multi-Cat, Naturally Fresh Single-Cat, World’s Best Cat Litter (Single Cat), Naturally Fresh Herbal Attraction and Naturally Fresh Multi-Cat Alpine Meadow.

Our Priorities

  • Minimal Dust
  • Clumps Well
  • Hides the smell of urine & faeces
  • Doesn’t get stuck in/on our cat’s paws

Dust

BLUE does a pretty great job of keeping dust minimal. The only time I actually see dust is when we pour the bag out into the litter box. Now, I can’t say that this is 100% true because when Beau comes out of the litter box his paws are usually a bit brown, but after a bit of walking (or even licking) the dust is gone from his paws in minutes. Through all of my research so far, Naturally Fresh won’t cause any long-term health products when cats lick it off their paws, but it’s still something to take note of, especially if you’ve never used a litter that coats your cat’s paws.

Clumping

Using almost every type of Naturally Fresh, I can say that the Alpine Meadow clumps… well the worst. I contacted BLUE about it in the past and they said that that shouldn’t be the case and offered me a full refund and sent me some awesome treats, but even when buying a new bag I had some issues. I know that when we started noticing the problems with clumping it was when Beau got his first UTI. I asked them if the PH in the urine affected clumping and they said it shouldn’t. Either way… this is what made us switch to the Multi-Cat Naturally Fresh which clumped so much better. I still wonder why it stopped clumping as well as it used to, but maybe it has something to do with what they use to scent the litter?

Odor Control

I must say, the main reason I miss this litter is because it had epic odour control. I haven’t used a litter that masked the scent of Beau’s stinky poops as well as this. As soon as Beau peed the whole room would fill with a delightful smell. Honestly, if I could get Beau to poop in this litter and not pee in it, I would be 100% set.

Tracking

Other than the fact that some dust would end up on Beau’s adorable paws, there wasn’t too much tracking with this litter (other than the little amount that would come out when Beau would jump out of the litter box. We easily fixed this by getting a good litter mat, which Beau (surprisingly) learned to wipe his paws on!

Conclusion

I would give this litter a 3/5. When we first got it I would have given it a 4.5, but man… I think this one went downhill… I am curious if anything changed over the years or if there’s a certain amount of time that the litter will clump before it falls apart, but there are much better litters out there… so why bother?

So Pet Parents, have you used this litter before? What were your experiences? What litter are you using now?
