REVIEW: SturdiBox Foldable Water Tight Box (Litter Box, Food & Water Bowl)

December 12, 2017 By Johnny Salib 10 Comments

sturdibox

Given Beau’s recent surgery we had to use low cut litter boxes. We needed to make sure our litter box checked all the following boxes:

  1. Can this be a litter box we use in the future, especially for travel?
  2. Can we purchase a litter box that is under $20, but is still big enough to catch Beau’s drippage?
  3. Can we make sure this litter box is compact enough to store for after Beau heals (since we already have 3 regular sized litter boxes.)
  4. Can we make sure this litter box doesn’t leak and can be washed for later use?

After some searching, we remembered my sister had left a pair of SturdiBox Foldable Water Tight Boxes, before moving, which I highly recommend for folks who are travelling or need a spare litter box they can store later on in their house.

The SturdiBox is marketed as a food or water bowl, but can definitely be used as a litterbox if you’re in a tight fix. It’s a decent size, coming in at 14.5″L x 11″W x 4″H, making it a lot lower than traditional litter boxes.

My favourite thing about the SturdiBox is the fact that it has a built-in snap that allows it to be folded up and hidden in a tight space. This is extremely beneficial for folks who do not have a lot of storage space in their homes and can’t find somewhere to hide their plastic litter boxes.

Although marketed as fully waterproof, I will say that the Sturdibox sometimes leaves residue under it. When we tried putting cold water into the box it was completely fine, however sometimes when Beau pees in it there is a bit of mist under the box (kind of like condensation.)

The SturdiBox is also very easy to clean, we usually use soap or vinegar, but if you’re going to use this for multiple purposes I would also use some Nature’s Miracle or Scout’s Honour on it before using it for food or water if you’ve already used it as a litter box. (Honestly, I don’t think I’d ever use it as a food or water bowl after using it as a litter box just for sanitary reasons.)

All in all I would rate this product a 4.5/5. The only reason it’s not a full 5 is the minor condensation from urination, however, this can be easily solved with a litter liner or standard garbage bag.

That is interesting! We ave only seen disposable litter trays for travel or temporary use, they too are quite low, but being made of some kind of cardboard, you would have to throw them away.

Yeah, we got very tired of using cardboard litter boxes. They ended up soaking and smelling really bad. Good for about a week, but we needed something more long term!

Ah, any reason you didn’t end up using it?

Great job of thinking outside of the box…and I didn’t type that to be funny.
