REVIEW: Petkin Shed-Away Cat Brush

September 17, 2017 By Johnny Salib 20 Comments

A bit ago I shared my thoughts about the KONG Zoom Groom and actually discovered the PetKin Shed-Away Cat Brush which is a very similar style to the Zoom Groom. Although they are similar in style, I actually preferred the Zoom Groom to the PetKin by quite a lot.

Let me start off by saying, Beau hates the PetKin for some reason. I don’t know if he’s just afraid of the spikes, but he always tries to attack the brush. Even if I gently brush him with it he tries to bite me, which is a no-no in this household. I’ve tried to leave the brush out for Beau to explore, and he’ll scout it out a bit before he juts out of the room. I’m actually really surprised about this, as he’s never done it with any other hair brushes (including the Furminator which you would think is more aggressive.) He usually loves getting brushed and purrs every time we groom him… (Weird, eh?)

Other issues I find with this brush: while it does collect quite a bit of hair like the Zoom Groom, it does appear to be a lot messier. It doesn’t do the greatest job of keeping hair in its bristles and I end up with a bunch of hair on my clothes. Boo! The bristles also don’t seem to collect as much hair unless you actually press into the little ones. (If your little one does actually like this brush you may have to brush them in a circular motion since the hair doesn’t catch otherwise.) I’ve tried both techniques (brushing with the hair and in circular motions) and Beau doesn’t seem to like either.

I’m baffled.

Things I do like about the brush: the size of it. It’s really nice on your hand and is easy to manoeuvre. It’s also super adorable, but that’s not useful unless you can actually get your little one to use it!

I really hate giving bad reviews, and I will admit I haven’t tried this on Walker yet, but I will have to give this brush a 1/5. As always, if things change and Beau ends up liking the product I’ll let you know, but same goes for if I find more issues with it.

The cuteness factor must be their selling point, MOL!
Pipo is only allowing ordinary bristle brushes on him…like the ones used for ladies’ hair. Go figure!

That’s strange that he dislikes it so much.

It certainly looks innerestin’. We like da groom genie da bestest. As fur bad reviews, we don’t think of them dat way. We think of them as tellin’ da truth. And, just cuz we don’t like somethin’ doesn’t mean some other kitty won’t just luv it. So, we try to show all sides of a purroduct and give da cost in case somepawdy wants to try it. Big hugs

    Luv ya’

A fair review is all that we ask! I have one too, and I dislike the fur on the clothes bit too, plus it’s cumbersome in my hand. Neither cat really enjoyed being brushed with it.

It’s so surprising that they don’t like it eh? Beau doesn’t mind wire brushes at all, so I’m shocked.

I have a similar one and it is too awkward to work with.

Well, you gotta be honest. We have the Zoom Groom and find that it works pretty good.

Absolutely! And not every product works for every cat. I’m sure it works great for some people. Well hopefully!

As the brush is made of plastic, maybe Beau dislikes static electricity. You could try to wet the brush a bit before brushing Beau. Purrs

We’ve never tried this brush but my boys probably won’t like it because they don’t like Zoom Groom. And if it’s messier, I may not like it, haha šŸ™‚ I do like the cute design, though!

It is such a cute design, and yeah I wish it was better. I’m sad I didn’t like it šŸ™

It is cute although that’s not why I’d buy a brush.

Agreed to that. The novelty of it doesn’t make up for it’s lack of use!
