As you may already know, we bought an AmazonBasics Cat Tree shortly after we moved to our new apartment and at first, we thought one would be enough, but it doesn’t seem so.
Originally it seemed like Kalista was going to be the primary user of the cat tree since she would spend the majority of her day sleeping at the top, but after a few weeks, it seemed like Beau was consistently sleeping on the second tier.
Now, a month or so ago I moved the cat tree into my office and Beau started making use of it daily, this time rotating between the top and the second tier.
Usually, Beau and Kalista get along, as you can tell from the many stories about how much they have bonded together or how they always sleep with each other or even how they groom each other, but a few nights ago things were different.
I won’t deny the fact that these two play fight frequently (no hissing, no biting, no nails, and no yelping), but for some reason, both cats wanted to sit on the cat tree at the same time.
Kalista was already sleeping on the top space and Beau jumped up and sat right on top of her. At first, I thought he was going to try to pee on her to let us know that he has a UTI since I’m still fairly “triggered” by the events that took place over a year ago, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
Beau just wanted to sit on the tree like his sister and didn’t seem to care that she was already sleeping. Kalista didn’t seem phased for a while, she actually let Beau sit on her, which was hilarious and so I walked away to get my camera to take photos.
Well, when I got back it seemed like Beau got heavy and Kalista wasn’t a fan anymore and she started hitting her brother. Well, I ended up getting a video of it just to show you how weird the whole situation was.
Note: I do not condone cat on cat violence and if things had escalated between the cat I would have separated them immediately, however, again there was no hissing, growling or other forms of aggression (other than the warning bites and swatting.)
Beau seemed to get the message fairly quickly and got off the cat tree as soon as he could, but as you can see… Kalista still wanted to take one last attempt at her brother.
It has made me want to get a second cat tree so they can each have their own in the office because Lord knows I don’t want them fighting!
Check out the footage below to see this really weird instance… and as funny as it is that Beau sat on his sister, let’s hope it doesn’t happen again!
What about a cat tree with two or more high spots. I know one is available with 3 spots on top…from either Amazon or Chewy…another IG cat account bought one for his 3 cats.
We’ve actually been saving for a bigger cat tree! We should have one by next month fingers crossed!
It’s funny that you posted about this now because my cats have begun to do this too. I bet that if you get a second tree … they’ll still fight because they’ll want the same one. I learned that with Kitty and Bear. I added a litter box to our home because of fights and Bear used whichever one Kitty did. She switched – so did he. Mine fight over the top perch now … which is interesting because for the past couple years, Bear hasn’t shown much interest in the cat tree, Cats are such funny, interesting creatures!
Right, it’s so funny! Beau was the exact same though. He would at most go onto the third tier of the cat tree, but now he’s always at the top… what changed?
J; you could have 200 cat trees and they would still fight, because who ever
is IN the said tree, thinks they OWN said tree, and the other would want the
spot on THAT particular tree. I have three trees, and it matters not who was in it first; tuna and mackerull have to push the other out…

Hahaha, you know what… You’re probably right š They sometimes even fight over their beds… even though there are 3 of them.
