Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
I thought I would lighten the mood today by letting you know that Kalista is becoming more bonded with me now that I’m working from home again. I know a few months ago I mentioned the fact that Kalista was bonding with my partner much more than she was bonding with me, but I can happily say that that is no longer true.
While she does do a lot more lap sitting with my partner, Kalista has been spending more and more time with me, making me feel like our whole family unit is getting much stronger.
Kalista and Beau have been inseparable for months now, always sleeping together and playing together and it was hard not to feel like I was the only one she wasn’t really growing fond of. I guess it’s a testament to how scared Kalista is of humans as she’s still very shy when new folks come over and honestly, sometimes when she hears new voices through the computer she runs and hides. Socialization is definitely something we’ve been working on with Kalista, but it’s not something that we can rush.
I mentioned a bit ago that Kalista started following me around the apartment, but she’s getting even more attached now. Some mornings I no longer wake up with Beau, but I get a surprise visit from Kalista.
It’s funny because Kalista’s original foster parent told us that Kalista loved sleeping in bed with her, but as I’ve mentioned in the past… that’s not true for us. I don’t know why Kalista hasn’t been a huge fan of sleeping with us, but I’ve been assuming it’s a dominance thing since Beau has been sleeping in our bed for over two years now.
I will say a few days ago I woke up to both Beau and Kalista sleeping on my partner (Beau on his chest and Kalista on his stomach) and I wish I got a photo of it, but as soon as I move to get my camera they both got up and ran to the kitchen thinking that they were going to get fed. Silly kitties!
Kalista has been coming up to me for her daily petting more often. Always making sure to give me a little nip on my leg to tell me “Daddy! Pay attention to me!” but she’s still not much of a lap kitty. She does come to sit next to me on the couch sometimes while I’m doing work, but slow, small steps are just as important, right?
I’m very glad I’ve gotten more time to spend with my furry family and can’t wait to share more pictures, videos and stories! Here’s to a cuddle filled Christmas!
