Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
As you may already know our cat Beau is one of the most spoiled cuddly cats you could ever meet. Ever since we first adopted Beau he’s been attached to me and over the years he’s grown more and more fond of my partner, to the point where every opportunity he gets to sit with my partner he will.
It’s come to the point where Beau’s morning routine is to wake my partner up to eat, eat, sleep with me for a bit, but then go and sit with my partner while he plays video games. I keep joking that my partner is stealing the cats away from me, especially since Kalista used to like him more and now Beau rarely sits with me unless I put him on my lap. But, at least I’m getting much more Kalista time now. Funny enough, as I write this article, Kalista is sitting in my lap purring!
Yesterday, one of the sweetest, but saddest, things happened. Beau had been enjoying his time with my partner in the office but had to abruptly leave for work. So Beau jumped off of him and my partner left. I would say about 5-minutes after my partner had left I heard Beau crying across the apartment. As you may also already know, whenever I hear Beau cry I get very triggered and immediately worry that he is blocked again.
So, after the first howl, I found him in our bedroom staring at the bed. Nothing was wrong, he was just cleaning himself. I left him alone. He started howling again. This time he was in the washroom, nothing was wrong, he was just sitting on top of the toilet. Odd place for him to be, nothing wrong. One last howl, he’s staring at my partner’s closed office door and then I put two and two together… Beau was looking for my partner. I guess he hadn’t realized my partner physically left the apartment.
I mean, both cats are attached to my partner at this point. Beau has always waited by the door around the time my partner gets home and they just spent two weeks with us home all the time, since my partner was sick. So, I picked Beau up, put him on my lap and he just purred and purred and purred.
It’s amazing how much these little ones love you and want to be with you. I truly can never understand folks who don’t think that animals have emotions or shouldn’t be treated as family members. While yes, I understand that when it comes to farm animals who are work animals, but our housecats are so attached to us and it makes me sad when we have to leave them.
Again, I’m glad that we have two cats at the moment to keep each other company, but it makes me wonder what else Beau used to do when both of us were gone and he was alone.
How about you? Do your cats ever go searching for your spouse or children while they’re gone? Let me know in the comments below!
