Hey Pet Parents & Pet Lovers,
Sometimes I feel like my cats are growing and changing daily, especially Kalista. And though I’ve been part of 4 kittens lives, I feel like Kalista has done the most changing and growing in the shortest amount of time.
Now, that might just be because I’m actually able to document Kalista’s life on Pets Overload, unlike when Walker and Beau were kittens. But I still feel like Kalista is doing a lot more growing than the other cats purely based on her personality.
I do remember Walker did a lot of growing, mostly physically, but I don’t remember his personality changing as much as Kalista’s has. That being said, Beau’s personality hasn’t really changed over the years we’ve had him and my sister actually reminded me today of how fast Beau connected with me.
Although I’ve done a bit of talking already about how Kalista has changed over the past few months of us having her, including how bonded she has become with Beau it seems like she just keeps getting closer and closer to our family, even though we thought she was as close as she’d ever be with us.
What do I mean by that? Well, last night I heard Kalista’s motor-like purring coming from the other side of my partner, so I got up to see how she was sleeping with him. It’s true that Kalista has started sleeping by our feet at night as of late, but this was the first time that I saw her pushed up against my partner’s chest while he slept.
You see, Kalista hates being held, unlike Beau. If you get too close to Kalista she’ll run away, especially if you’re putting her close to your chest. She can sit in your lap as long as she doesn’t feel claustrophobic, but it seems like that’s changing.
So, I tried to see if she had “just so happened” to be by my partner’s chest or if she would get that cozy with him if I moved her. I picked her up, put her by my feet and lo and behold, Kalista walked back right by his chest and snuggled right into him. Adorable right? My partner even made the joke that he was going to be her favourite again soon, though it’s clear that she trusts me a lot since I’m still the only one she responds to.
This afternoon we tried to get Kalista to sleep with my partner again, but she kept running away and didn’t want to be near him, which is interesting. I know you can’t force cats to do anything you want since they are much more independent than a lot of other house pets, but it was worth a shot. I mean, there are some times that you can get Kalista to sit on your lap, again as long as you don’t hold her or make her feel claustrophobic, but this new closeness she showed is getting me interested in trying to make her more of a cuddly cat like Beau is.
I guess this is going to be an adventure that I will share with you.
Now, the other cute thing that has changed about Kalista is where she’s been spending most of her day.
As you may already know, Kalista is a huge fan of our cat tree and spends a good portion of her day sleeping on it, but it seems like she’s trying to steal Beau’s favourite spot now.
Ever since it’s gotten a bit warmer, Beau has been spending time sleeping in his old cat bed by the window and watching cars zoom by. It’s currently placed right next to my desk, which makes it ideal for Beau since he likes being next to us at all times, but every so often Kalista seems to be sleeping there.
There was actually a time where Kalista broke into my office and I found her snoozing away in Beau’s cat bed. What a silly goober!
The other day Beau even tried to cuddle up beside her while she was sleeping in his bed, though she got out almost immediately which made me a bit sad because they have shared that bed in the past. I guess maybe since Kalista has grown too much she’s not a fan of sharing the bed (since it is quite small), but we’ll see… maybe that will be a new development in the near future.
The cute thing is, Kalista chose to stay very close to Beau even though they didn’t share the bed. She sat on the window ledge to watch the rain and every so often she would put a paw into the bed as if she was ready to take a step to sleep with Beau, but she never actually did share the bed.
I truthfully think that Kalista will always value her personal space, although I will never understand why since she’s one of the most attention-seeking cats I have ever met. I guess with every living creature there is something called “too much loving.”
Either way, I’m so excited for more Kalista habits and stories to come, but in the meantime what were your cat’s growing curves like? Did they ever stop changing? Have they been the same all throughout their time with you? Let me know in the comments below.
